THE CHARTER

The story of the city

Every city has a founding story. Ours begins with a word from Jesus: “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

ARTICLE 0 — THE NAME

Why “The Believers City”?

The Church is not a building but the believer in Christ, the believers church is a training ground where souls are won and discipled and equipped as the New Testament Ministers for the purpose of ministry. Every believer is an able minister of the gospel. We are here to help you grow in the knowledge of Christ, as you discover your identity in Christ, your purpose in life is revealed.

THE FOUNDATIONS

The Charter — what we believe

DRAFT — for pastoral review (INTAKE-04): these nine articles are the foundations the city is built on.

  1. ARTICLE I

    The Scriptures

We believe the Bible, both the Old and the New Testaments is inspired and empowered by God, infallibe, is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness.(2 Timothy 3:16-17). We believe that the Biblical Scriptures do not simply contain the Word of God but are the Words of God that inherently possess His life and authority and bring faith, revelation, healing, to those who choose to receive (Matthew 4:4; Matthew 22:31; Romans 1:17; Romans 15:4;2 Corinthians 4:13; Hebrews 10:7; Proverbs 4:20-22).

  2. ARTICLE II

    God

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons — Father, Son and Holy Spirit — the Architect and Builder of the city whose foundations cannot be shaken. (1 John 5:7).

  3. ARTICLE III

    Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man: born of a virgin, sinless in life, crucified for our sins, bodily risen, ascended, and coming again. He is the King of the city.(1 Corinthians 1:30-31).

  4. ARTICLE IV

    The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit indwells and empowers every believer — convicting, comforting, gifting and sending us as light into the world.( 1Corinthians 12:7).

  5. ARTICLE V

    Salvation

We believe salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone — not earned by works, but received as a gift, and evidenced by a changed life. (Ephesians 2:8-9).

  6. ARTICLE VI

    The Church

We believe that Church is the true Church is comprised of all born-again believers who have received salvation through Jesus Christ regardless of denomination affiliation (Ephesians 1:22-23).

  7. ARTICLE VII

    Baptism & Communion

We believe in the baptism of the holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in Tongues. (Mark 15:15-19).

  8. ARTICLE VIII

    The Mission

We believe every believer is sent. The city does not exist for itself: we make disciples in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and to the ends of the earth.

  9. ARTICLE IX

    The Hope

We believe Christ will return, the dead will be raised, and God will dwell with His people in the city whose lamp is the Lamb. We live now in the light of then.
